Description
The fairy tale only speaks of the Prince who succeeded. But I think several suitors tried to reach the sleeping princess through the thorns; but pierced and choked and trapped, they died in the thorns around her while she slept on.
The clothes, armour, and men's hairstyles are based on Italian fashions of approximately 1630 (the date of one of the earlier versions of the story) with a few other Tudor influences thrown in. I've painted this theme before, (Beauty and her dead suitors also on DA from 7ish years ago), and always wanted to come back to it.
