He was good at making things (particularly trouble), but as with most metalsmiths in Tolkien's work (Fëanor, Eöl, Mahtan, Maeglin, Celebrimbor) it didn't end well. Perhaps if Fëanor had spent less time in the forge, and more time playing horsey with his kids, a lot of sh*t would have been avoided. ‬
