Bast (also 'Bastet' ) the Egyptian cat-headed goddess in her earlier days when she was a solar deity, a lioness, and protector of Lower Egypt. Later she would be diminished to a lunar deity and a mere housecat. The little cat shown here however is Bast's own.

It seemed like all the Egyptian gods became declawed to some extent with the Greeks and then the prudish Romans. ('O hai, I is Roman, let me absorb you.' I was curious though about Bast as a lioness as I'd only ever heard of Sekhmet as the lioness, and Bast (or diminuitive Bastet) as the cat. (By the way, if you ever see Scotland you must visit the Burrell collection in Glasgow: largest collection of Sekhmet heads and statues I've ever seen, deeply awesome.)

"Some people hear voices. Some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever."
this was not a diminishing thing - it was elevating her to her proper level.
She was a solar deity during the time of Aton who destroyed everything lunar - opting for a more male dominated solar religion...

Sorry if my tense is not correct. I'm lost in time...
she was still a lioness in her late days, in the official sphere. but for the common people, a little gentle kitty was better to venerate ^^
